Just to clarify. The $2300 is just for the inspection. All travel expenses including travel time for the inspector are
additional. Total charges $3800.
This is the first time AIG has required the inspection. I was first insured with them in 2005.

The rate is probably less than $100 per hour and that seems reasonable.

Unfortunately there aren't inspectors located all over the country, and
SOMEONE has to pay for travel time.  I don't know any businesses that can
afford to pay their employees while they are sitting in a car or an airplane
traveling to a site and not pass that cost along to a customer.  It's
probably why most folks can't afford for their doctor to make a house
call... unwillingness to pay the $400 an hour while they sit in traffic.

I just received a quote from Tim Wilson at Lancair for the aircraft  inspections required by AIG prior
to renewing my insurance policy for the Lancair IV. $2300 for the  inspection that should take 1 and 1/2 days.
This does not qualify as a conditional inspection. Any travel expenses  are additional.
Does $191 hour shop rate seem excessive?
They can not do my inspection until May, after my present policy  expires.
