industry is supposed to be "softening." I have recently heard that
Avemco is offering insurance without these restrictions. I don't know the
truth of that. . . .
Perhaps these restrictions are still in force for the
IV-P and PT. However AIG insured my ES-P, the first such model
completed, with hardly a whimper. They asked for 10 hrs of dual by an
approved instructor (all HPAT pilots are considered approved) with no 6-month or
annual follow-up. They also requested a pre-flight inspection by
a Lancair-approved individual. For $300k hull/$1 million
liability my rate was $5300 the first year dropping to $4800 the second
year. AIG has been very responsive to my direct calls and to my
broker SkySmith Insurance. Joe is right (it was bound to happen ;-) when
stating that recurrent training is important. AIG might not require it but
your family and passengers should.
