Call the FAA registration department, tell them your issue and they will guide you through the process of changing the registration and the N-number. I advise you to do this prior to your need for a DAR Inspection. Paperwork must be in order to get through the DAR. If it is registered now just keep it registered and change the N-number prior to DAR. This is not a problem merely a bother.
