I’m still building, and I think this
is a great site. I bought my 320 kit in 1988, serial #325, built for
several years until 1993, then for multiple reasons quit until this year.
This website is invaluable to me. Now, when I start a new task, first I
read the 360 mark II manual, the factory revisions and service bulletins and
finally research the LML archives for new or better ways to complete the task.
Two things that would help me are;
- a
more definitive subject heading that would make searching easier --
maybe some combination of terms i.e. LNC2/build, LIV/ins. etc.
- Biography
of the LML contributor. In the archives, or? Obviously
we have a lot of very real talent on the LML, but, being a new person here
I would like to know what your talents are. Obviously, if you bought
your A/C yesterday with no builders experience, your talents will be very
different than a finite analysis engineer with 30 years of test pilot
experience and has built one or more Lancairs. In other words, the
BS artist is hard to spot (at first).
Thanks
to Marv and the list.

building
I hope all the interest in a new
webb site does not diminish the capability and opportunity for help during
construction. I am still building. Still trying to match a MKII
tail to a 1993 vintage fuselage. Still trying to make sense of the
original plans and two updates.
Perhaps there IS a need to inventory the interests of those active on this
site. I am not looking to join a new site.

Do we
have a log in which we can state and update percent completion, start date and
target first flight date, so we can track who is building and who is
flying?

Bryan, Angier, Marv,
I doubt if many are actually building kits today. Having purchased my kit
in 1987 and flying today, I still read each post and learn from time to
time. I know of no Lancair builders within several hundred miles and I am
the only owner in this area also. There are several RV kits in progress
and several flying.
I would be interested in how often a reply it sent to a builder
privately. I know I send most privately to avoid the wrath of some here
on LML. As age increases, my skin thins...
Marv, I really don't mind seeing the many discussion paths. My delete key
works for me. I do appreciate you for taking the time to support this
forum! Earl

Angier,
I agree. It seems like there isn't much happening on the LML as
far build discussions. You can still get answers to some but really seems
like not much activity for, what I thought to be a fairly large amount of
aircraft kits out there.
Anyone know how many Lancair kits have been sold since the
inception?
Lancair builders and owners are either:
2. People who fly and build Lancairs don't care to have any web
presence. Which will eventually lead Lancair to item 1 in this age..
Soon its going to be a world where experiment airplane is defined as an
RV.
Thats my Wahhh wahhh wahh viewpoint of the day.

I may be confused about the original purpose and intent of LML
but then
again, I'm confused by many things of late.
As I recall, LML came into existence in order to be a sort
of clearinghouse
for builders to share building tips, techniques, problem solving,
etc... and
as an extension/supplement to factory technical support.
LML seems to me to be drifting wide of this mark and in danger
of losing its
relevance, to me anyway. Perhaps I'm one of only a few still
building and as
such, recent posts about FAA crud are of little importance to me.

[Good points, Angier.... I've always tried to keep a very light hand on the
LML, allowing the community to pretty much police itself. As a
more-or-less open venue, its focus tends to shift with the times. It was
a much different community back when I started the LML, one that was pretty
much dominated by builders. Over the years much of that building has
resulted in completed aircraft and a change of focus for those folks who have
moved from building to flying and maintaining. This doesn't mean that we
still don't have meaningful discussions about the former, just that they tend
to be fewer and further between. That being said, if you (and I mean that
collectively here) would prefer that I start filtering the more
"peripheral" discussions from the LML, I'd be happy to do so.
My concern is mostly about where to draw the line. Let me think about it
over the weekend, and if anyone else would like to chime in with suggestions or
solutions to perceived problems, please feel free to contact me offline at my
private email address, just so we don't clog the LML with a bunch of management
issues that are better left in the back room. Thanks to everyone for your
continued support and participation... without you the LML would be an empty
email box. <Marv> ]
