I previously owned a 320 (N10ZC) and flew over 800 hours all across the country.  I Echo the fly high to save fuel statement.  I don’t have the calculations but if I remember correctly I could pay for the oxygen equipment in less than a year and that was at $1.70 per gallon (1994) prices!  Its been a few years but I remember the plan loved the 11,000 to 15000 FL range.  I also recharged the bottle from my companies welding bottle using a braided transfer hose.  I’ve got a Oxygen bottle with carry case and pulse ox dispenser for sale if anyone’s interested…not needed now that I’ve got a 4P.

Bobby,

<<If  the surfaces are straight, true and clean, then the 320 will cruise at just a little less than the 360 on a lot less fuel, if what I read is correct.  Sometimes I wonder if I needed to do the KISS thing and just go with a 320 and the basics, and put the money into optimizing the basics.  Any comments>>

Getting the greatest efficiency out of your Lancair requires the discipline to throttle back to your best range airspeed for your given altitude and winds.  The 360 and 320 will show little difference, if any, at this point since both will be producing the same power and I doubt the BSFC values differ much between the two.  Throttling back and reducing speed is not easy.   We all like to see the highest possible TAS.  In general, fly high, really high.

The primary benefit of the 360 is the better climb rate.
