The teflon insert idea has been around for awhile and I haven't heard any
complaints from those who've used it.
But certainly, the smaller pin is weaker.

Consider instead replacing the hinge with CARBINGE - a graphite hinge with
nylon insert.  Teflon creeps and flows under frictional stress and pressure.
The Carbinge has a pin the same size as the MS20001.  Our tests show it will
not wear and fret like the aluminum hinges.  It's life expectancy therefore
should be MUCH greater than either the original milspec hinge or the
modified one.  Also the Carbinge is much lighter than the aluminum and it
doesn't leave the black streaks of oxidized aluminum on your aircraft.
