Introducing myself to the group as a new owner of a Legacy built by Jim Vosters. I took possession on June 6 after an inspetion where the A&P said it was of the finest custom built aircraft he has seen. I also received lots of training by Jim in this well-built aircraft in Florida before heading north. The aircraft had about 260 hours and was built in strict compliance with the Lancair specifications. On June 6th I went for a short jaunt across the country from Daytona to Kalispell, MT. Not many airplanes can do that on 130 gallons and 10 flight hours in a single day. I had no problem adjusting to the Legacy and everything performed wonderfully including the autopilot in challenging conditions over the mountains. I learned the hard way about loose seat belts approaching the mountains and I have a sun visor imprint on my scalp this week.
The XM weather and chartcase were invaluable in making the trip VFR between 8,500 and 14,500. The Legacy has a factory panel and factory new IO550N that I couldn't be happier with. I will return the Legacy to Spruce Creek FL this winter and it will have a good home prowling Florida's airspace. While I didn't build this aircraft I don't believe I could have built one to this quality level even if I had the time. I look forward to training at one of the organized events perhaps later this year.
Below is a shot after purchase in Homerville GA (KHOE) which was followed by stops in K88 Iola KS, KRAP Rapid City then KGPI Kalispell MT. What a great airplane!
Greetings to all,
