Like many IV P builders I would like to eliminate
the pressure compensation for the aileron controls.  Don G's idea of a
split machined plastic bearing seems to be working for some
of the builders.  I woud like to try something
different and hopefully better.  My thought is to use a stiff rubber
compound to pour a custom
bearing around the torue tube.  I found a plastic
form that would give me the correct shape.  I would split the form and
quick glue it back
together around the torque tube, hold the torque tube vertical, and then
pour the rubber compound into the form.  Of course I have already place
a separating medium on the torque tube.  The new custome bearing would
then be screwed to the pressure box built around the aileron bell crank.

I have two concerns:  1.  Is there enough
pressure at altitude to push the bushing so
tightly around the torque tube that movement is
made more difficult?  I have in mind using a rubber similar to a
dentist's impression material
or even Proseal.  I have a lot of Proseal left
over from my last project.

2.  Will lubrication be a problem? Maybe I will
need to build in a grease fitting that leads to a
circular grove situated in the center of the bearing.

I am new to this web site so I do not know if this has been covered
before.  I would appreciate
any comments.
