I used a lazy susan, works fine.

Subject: [LML] Clean Anti-Shimmy Test for Legacy

I'm still working on the annual inspection of my Legacy, but getting close to finishing.  One of the things I wanted to check was the nose gear anti-shimmy damper.  The assembly manual says to use two steel plates with grease between them.  Set the nose wheel on top of the plates and twist the nose wheel left and right to feel for the correct resistance.

I didn't have a couple of steel plates, but I did have a lazy susan bearing similar to one of these:

You can probably get them at your local big box home improvement store or hardware store.  I used a 6" one because that's what I had.  I screwed a 1.5" thick piece of wood to the top side of the bearing, about the size of the bearing's base.  I set the bearing directly on the hangar floor and lowered the nose wheel on top of the wood.  A simple, quick, and clean method of testing the anti-shimmy damper!
