I need your help. I am sitting here at my computer trembling in fear because I just drove home in a non certified car. Sure it had air bags seat belts energy absorbing structures etc., but the speedometer was not TSO’d, nor are the spindles that hold the front wheels on. If a spindle breaks the car could dart head on into a truck killing me instantly. There are over 600,000,000 uncertified spindles in this country putting us all in grave danger. Where can I buy a brand new government certified 1957 Chevy so that I can be safe?
A shade tree mechanic can slap together a kit and sell it to you, but Van or Joe cannot sell you a professionally built example of their plane. They could buy the plane from the shade tree mechanic and sell that to you. Obviously safety is not a factor in this issue, nor is common sense. If common sense prevailed you could buy a professionally built experimental plane from Van or Joe. A reasonable compromise would be that you would not get a mechanics certificate and the plane would not be used for commercial applications, and the buyer would sign a waiver acknowledging that the plane is experimental and uncertified.
