Bryan, You can put shims or glass behind the rear bearing block. If you put any spacer on the front side between the gear and the bearing block, you will increase the bending loads seen by the 3/8 pins. I like to keep the gear weldment right up against the bearing both front and rear. I had to shim mine after a year or two of flying after some fore/aft movement developed. Chris Chris Zavatson N91CZ
