Dear
Lancair fellows!
I have a Lancair IV with
a VM1000 among other instruments. My
aircraft has a 14 volts system
and the VM1000 is designed for that. When mounted the VM1000
worked fine but after a while the problems began.
From first flight May 1, 2007 I have so far been
flying my plane only 15 hours because of some problems with radios and
VM1000. Before starting
the engine the VM1000 does
not work and shows nothing on the screen.
When the engine is running and the
alternator is rising the voltage over the battery to 14 volt the
VM1000 comes to life and the screen fills
with information. After take off in
the climb when running the gear up the VM1000 stops functioning
and the whole screen is filled with disconnected numbers. That is when the
hydraulic pump starts and takes a lot of power. When gear is locked and pump has
stopped working the VM1000 screen comes back again in good order. Same
thing happens when approaching airport and landninggear comes out with all
the power from the pump. Very annoying because just in those moments its
nessecary to see the correct numbers for speed and rpm.
I have found out that below 13 volt the
VM1000 stops working. When speaking to the support people at
Vision I have been told that the VM1000 should work down to 9
volt. I have tried to get a hint what to do from this support people but they
are not so interested in my problems. Even when asking where to send it to get
it fixed have not resulted in an answer. Has anyone out there had a similar problem and are
villing to give me a hint how to fix it. I have been asking the Vision company
for a schematic but they refuse to give it to a user. I have some experience in
repairing electronic equipment and I should appreciate very much if
anyone could give me an
advice how to fix this problem.
