Just did my first oil change - and used this
system. It worked quite well and I didn't spill anything (well almost
nothing).
It appears to be available from Aircraft Spruce as
well as Lancair. It is called a Lancair IV Oil Drain Valve and has a P/N
of 08-0129.
The steel portion threads into the oil pan and is
covered by the brass cap. To change the oil, you remove the cap and thread
in the other brass fitting with the hose attachment (hose attached).
Inside the fitting with the hose attachment is a small wire "nipple" that
depresses a valve in the steel portion and allows oil to flow. You
simply place the hose end of the fitting into a bucket, allow the oil to drain
and then re-attach the brass cap.
As far as I can tell, there is adequate clearance,
although we are going to do some more gear swings to check. We will need
to re-check as the engine sags further in the isolators to make sure that
clearance is maintained.
Overall, I recommend highly.

Oil
Quick Drain Flush, 5/8-18

A close fitting
quick oil drain for Continental Engines
QTY EA
@ $99.00
This is the only one that
Lancair offers.
Is anybody using this on a
Legacy on a IO-550 on the side oil pan drain on an 8 quart oil pan
system?
Did you do a gear retract and
look at the clearance of the gear arm which sweeps up just past
this?
(I'm still cleaning oil off
myself from yesterdays oil change – messy!)

Hi Doug – We’d
all like to hear about your quick drain. Can you please post your answer here
on the LML?
Thanks,

Yes, and it is from
Lancair.
Unfortunately, it
is currently in Redmond and I am in Baltimore, but I will be in Redmond next
week. Contact me offline and I will try to remember to send you the
info. douglasbrunner@earthlink.net
