Subject: Cowling Air Intake Question

I have always been worried about flying 200 mph and it starts raining and water gets into the air intake and into the carb and waa laa - dead engine.

But this doesn't happen in Cessnas but then it would have to travel up quite a bit but in our Lancairs, our intake box is so small, I really worry about it.

Also, I'd like to do a better job on transitioning from the cowling to the 2 1/4 inch metal intake of the airbox, does anyone have a picture of theirs they'd like to share?    One thing I'm not sure of is - does all the air from that hole have to go into the airbox?  Or, can their be areas around it where cold air can leak into bottom area of the engine.  My manual isn't real clear on this.

Here, a picture will be worth a thousand words, so I'd really appreciate it if you could post some pictures!!

Thanks.

Matt
