Very interesting post by "Tim Jørgensen" with a lot of good advice. One of my pet peeves is mixing chemistry's unnecessarily. UV Smooth Prime is a water born product and would be a good choice if you plan to use water base urethane like Stewarts. I also refuse to use polyester body putty. The lancair is an epoxy base airplane. If you plan to paint your Lancair with urethane, why not use urethane start to finish? I recommend that all shaping work be done with epoxy/micro and cab-o-sil if you know how to use it. When you have finished shaping, the fun really begins. I do all of my work using Loehle Aero Coatings Filler/UV Blocker. Tim mentioned a lite mist coat of color paint to show the quality of your work. This is called Guide Coating as any color left behind shows what is still low. What if there was a finishing system that had a built in guide coat. Loehle Filler/UV Blocker cures shiny when sprayed and turns dull when sanded. All
sanding is done dry, no wet sanding required. See the attached photo to see how this system looks when you sand it. As for Pin Holes, try using Loehle Wonder-Fil. This liquid is applied with a paper towel and dries to a white powder. Let dry and wipe off the residue leaving the pin holes filled. When primer is sprayed, the wonder-fil will pull solvents from the paint and become chemically bonded. Wonder-fil is compatiable with any urethane including color top coats. I have found Loehle coatings to be the easist to use, most flexable system available. See http://www.loehle.com/
