Bill,
We've found that a good place for a remote
compass/magnetometer on a Legacy is just a little behind the baggage
bulkhead against the top of the fuselage. All it takes is fabrication of a
U-shaped bracket made from fiberglass. Since the top of the fuselage is
sloped you need to compensate for this with the bracket so that the magnetometer
is aligned with the waterline of the airplane. So far this has worked well
with Crossbow, Pinpoint, GRT, and Dynon magnetometers. Of course in all
the installations where we used this location there was no wiring nearby and the
A/P pitch servo was mounted on the lower surface of the fuselage. I also
used shielded cable for power and signals.
