It should change the tone or stop the noise. You can remove the valve cover and "spike the valves" (hit them with a rubber hammer) as it may just be a bit of crude that will bust loose. Also run the engine and recheck when warm. If it comes back, it may be worth a check with a boroscope before declaring alls well. Mike Busch ? has written many articles in the various aviation press about clyinders, condition inspection etc. 40/80 is a small leak.
