Having been in an airplane during periods of high static build up, I have seen every screen on the panel go blank and reboot. A stand-by attitude indicator is a completely different technology making it a true back up. (it's also more reliable than any glass EFIS by order of magnitude) I have a Mid-Continent "Lifesaver" gyro and am very happy with it.
