hmm, I'm confused, this is 495 cubic inches..
the TSIO-550 is bigger so it can pump more air, so with a stoichiometric
mixture one would be burning more fuel... and isn't that faster?
so perhaps bsfc is some mechanical efficiency thing, but last I looked,
the TSIO didn't need to pump water around.I don't get it..... Rob


Rob, turn the boost up and you can make a lot more than 600 hp with 495
ci.  I have a two liter (122 ci) engine in my shop that makes 1000 hp.
Durability does not necessarily go hand in hand with boost pressures
involved with this kind of power output.  Another factor in making more
power for a given engine size is rpm.  The Orenda engine is running at
4400 rpm and thus requires a gearbox.  However, move the max power rpm
up and generally the max power goes up. In my opinion, this engine wants
to compete with the turbo props.
