I don't think you have to worry....It sounds like you are prepared to learn
the skills you will need to fly your bird. I own a 235, and have only 200
hours TT. Most in retractable and conventional (tailwheel) configurations ,
but NOT in complex/high performance. I now have logged 30 hours or so in my
235, and have had no trouble with the transition. I still pick my flying
days carefully, but have found that there is nothing unusual about flying
these airplanes, provided you are willing to take the time to learn. I have
heard of a pilot who purchased a part-ownership of a 235, with only C-152
experience, and gave up after several dual instructional flights in his new
airplane, so I'm not saying that these birds are right for everyone, but it
sounds like you are willing to invest the effort in training, and this
attitude is the most important element to your success. You need not be
intimidated by the plane.
BTW, I pay 2,000/ year for liability and hull ($45,000). Required 5 hrs
dual with CFI with time in type before solo. I felt comfortable after this
checkout.
