The general consensus on the SL-30 intercomm is *why bother*. It's rather
poor quality, and has a whole bunch of "gotchas" as mentioned below. Just
bite bullet and put in a "real" audio panel, or at the min, a separate
intercomm. If doing on the cheap, you can find KMA26's (not stereo), or KMA
28's (stereo and made by PS Engineering) on ebay for excellent prices.

I also researched using the SL30's intercom. I found this thread on the
Van's message board. It basically says the intercom is muted any time there
is radio traffic, which means you can't talk over the radio even if the
incoming transmission isn't for you.

This jibes with the troubleshooting section of the installation manual. The
manual says the active frequency has priority over the intercom. Based on
this information, I went with a PM3000 intercom.
