Matt, Walter & Ian,
Thank you for your thoughts on the diagnosis. As usual insight from those
who've been there presents unparalled understanding.
After trouble shooting the contactor, I pulled the starter. One of three
small (planetary?) gears had disintegrated. The pieces had jammed the
motor.
Having luckily a parts locker of sorts on hand, I replaced the motor, bendix
and solenoid. I then stood at attention, saluted, and signed my logbook
(with a FED looking on no less!).
The biggest challenge was getting the corroded Tug battery terminals to
shoot a little juice down the cables to get her started.
After a brief tour of LSU with the Mother-In-Law Lancair 360LH is now
happily home and hangared.
Thanks again,
Larry
PS: Thanks for avoiding such words as epistemological in your responses as
I being a bear of a wee little brain most probably would've been
overwhelmed.
