I also have used the 3M Scotch flexable  vinyl tape.  Its  called "Decorative and Repair Tape"  and sold in clear (takes the color of the surface it applied to) and colors.  Can be ordered on line and comes in 3/4 in width (Cat # 190) and 1.5 in widths
(Cat #  191).  Very easy to use.  Regards, Bill Hogarty
