Cox" : Ditches for lack of a better word were discussed at this quarterly Oregon Pilots meeting today. Due to inherent Pacific NW Marine rainfall, we have many airports which resort to this feudal concept of retention basins around airport assets. On Wednesday, the State Department of Aviation is having their board meeting at RDM and Bob Hidley (Director) may address "Draining retention areas" with the board. It would be valuable for pilots to send input on what distance away from active Taxiways and Runways such design features are removed. The ideal that Manfred would opt for a gear-up touchdown in the grass is defeated if there are berms, ditches, VASI lights stands and other obstructions in the way of a safe touchdown. He did a great job. John Cox
