I have read that the way to torque lock nuts is to read the torque required to turn the nut when it is fully engaged on the bolt but not seated. This is the torque required to overcome the friction of the locking mechanism (nylon or bent tabs). Then add this value to the required torque for the application, and turn the nut to the total value.
