Hello Chris,
Perhaps what I have done is what you are looking for.
Whilst laying on the floor under the engine and gazing up at the newly
installed
exhaust system I began to wonder why it culdn't have been built with one
pipe exiting from under the cowling on each side of the gear leg instead of
the
over/under arrangement originally built. The prime motivation for this idea
was that the bottom of the cowling could then be remade with less of a scoop
bulge since I have the forward mounting sump. I thought this a fairly
straightforward modification that wouldn't take too long or cost too
much.(Yes, I can
hear the fits of laughter from the peanut gallery already)
I contacted Chris at Aircraft Exhaust Tecnologies in Barnesville MN.
_Aircraft Exhaust Technologies, Inc. - Aircraft Exhaust, Aircraft Exhaust
Repair, Aircraft Mufflers, Aircraft Exhaust Parts, f._
(http://www.aircraftexhaust.net/)
(check out their website as I don't have their numbers with me). He was most
helpful and sent me an instruction booklet on how to mock up one half of an
exhaust system to work with the other half of my Lancair system(Ibelieve it
was the ex-5) except that it exits out the right side. See attached
pictures.
I paid $500 for the work done on the pipes which included a couple of
returns for minor tweaks.
Now of course for the disclaimer; I am still building so I have no data for
whether this is as functional as the original or not. I am pleased with the
appearance of the cowling (that's another whole discussion) so will fly it
and see how it works.
I'm happy to discuss it further over the phone as I don't type very fast.
Feel free to call.
