Second Annual Napa Lancair Fly In

Hosted by Craig Gainza and High Performance Aircraft Training

Friday October 27 to Sunday October 29

Napa Airport , CA (APC)

We posted this awhile ago, but wanted to remind you about this event and correct some phone numbers in the original copy. We have had some additions to the program for the weekend. There is a nice flyer designed by a Lancair builder known for his artistic capability, which is attached. Please feel free to copy and distribute to any Lancair flyers or builders you know!

Please join us for a great fall getaway weekend in the Napa Valley! Last year we had a great group and we are seeing increased numbers this fall. High Performance Aircraft Training will offer their Lancair Ground School on Saturday, October 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pete Z. and his team will be doing initial and recurrent training for a few days before and after the class. Join us Friday afternoon for Darlene’s Wine Tasting Tour, followed by dinner at a local Italian restaurant. Saturday take the course or do some driving or flying around the scenic Northern California wine country or the Lost Coast. Shelter Cove (0Q5), recently reviewed in Pilot Getaways, is spectacular place to fly and eat.

Meet the group Saturday evening at the Gainza residence for dinner. A builders’ breakfast (chef Don Barnes will be impressing us with his grand champion cooking skills) is planned at our Hangar (C-8; ask for the South Ramp when parking) at the Napa airport Sunday at 10 a.m. Keith Thomassen, who consults for Direct-To Avionics, and who wrote or revised a number of user manuals for Garmin products, will present  useful tips on flying with EFIS/MFD systems. Robert and Lisa Williams will be down from the Lancair factory for the weekend and will bring Aerocraft parts, if anyone orders them to be delivered to the fly in.

Since October is a popular time to visit the Napa Valley, we encourage you to make hotel reservations soon. Please contact our FBO, Bridgeford Flying Services. The line manager, John Bridi, has agreed to help you with your travel arrangements (hotel and rental cars) and hangar space. Bridgeford's website is www.bfsnapa.com, or call 800-229-6272 or 707-224-0887 .They will also offer a discount on fuel from their truck or self serve to Lancair flyers. Just ask for it when you fuel up!

The closest hotel to the airport is a Fairfield Inn and Suites on Highway 29 in American Canyon (707-643-3800). You have to book your room through Bridgeford to get their negotiated rate of $89 at the Fairfield Inn. Another very convenient option (and a bit nicer property) near the Gainzas is the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield where you can request the Bridgeford rate of $119 (707-426-6900) by calling the hotel directly. Both hotels still have availability as of today (9/8/06). Hotels up in the Napa Valley have very limited availability by this time and are usually much more expensive.

To reserve a place in the ground school, contact Pete Zaccagnino at flypetezacc@aol.com or call him at 908-391-2001. Pete is your contact for scheduling flight training as well.

To sign up for the Friday wine tour, or to attend either or both dinners, please email Sandy Gainza at sgza@hotmail.com or call 707-864-0385. She can also assist you with suggestions for other activities in the area during that weekend.

We look forward to seeing you here in October!
