A warning in the Dash-1 for USAF KC-135 aircraft states (pretty much) NOT to
open or unlatch doors and windows in preparation for a crash landing because
a) crash forces high enough to jam a door/window closed will likely provide
a break in the structure large enough for egress, and b) closed and latched
doors and windows provide occupants protection from fumes, flames and flying
debris - at least initially.
If you're in a Legacy and the aircraft comes to rest inverted, unless you've
installed removable rear windows you're likely to be stuck there until
somebody arrives to help you egress. You're probably going to be too hurt to
wield any sort of cutting/pounding tool with the requisite force needed to
crack the plexiglass.
