That is exactly what I am planning. I am going to install a cam in- between the two front Canopy hinges, that will pull pins out of the  two forward modified separable hinges. As for the Canopy sliding back  and decapitating me, or just taking out my teeth, I plan to install a  hinge on the rear of the canopy for it to pivot up and back on.
