I flew my friend's 235/320 for several years before I finished my 235, and I never experienced any instability except once when I got into a dutch-roll episode on a go-around with an instructor. However, because of all the talk about the tail, and wanting to increase my hinge moment, I increased the elevator chord and added 3 inches on each side of the stab just outboard of a shortened balance extension. I added 1 1/2" to the trailing edge of the elevator inboard, tapering to 3/4" outboard. I also added balance weights to the center of the elevator inside the fuselage to offset the shortened end weights. I have enough elevator power to drag my ventral fin after landing with a 200 lb passenger aboard.
