Yes, you are right. Of course, those individuals have made
significant modifications to engines and airframes. Some of us believe
that the utility craft we fly (Lancair) races just fine with cheap (i.e. gap
seals) or free mods (i.e. ram air) without going nuts.
Where were you for the cup race again?
Thinks of this - there were some 540, 550 and turbo-charged aircraft
that couldn't make the grade either.
