Gary,
I had a long discussion on the phone with the chief engineer at NDM, now
Niagara Thermal. This was several months ago when I was tracking down
IO-550N oil cooling issues. Interestingly, the oil cooler designs that we
have available to us on our certified engines are hopelessly outdated.
They are required by FAA rules to build the coolers with the original design and
performance to receive PMA approval. He said the current technology would
allow them to build far superior coolers.
