I=E2=80=99m revitalizing a 320 completed in 1991. I again downloaded all th=
e SBs but=20
seem to remember some items (heard over the years) that are not there.=20
Maybe they were only concerns and are not serious enough for SBs.=20
1) Is there an inspection method to determine if the SB (009-92) for th=
e=20
early nose gear has been complied with (SN 1-461)? The inspection method I=
=E2=80=99m=20
referring to does not (should not) include teardown.
Jim,
Don't know. If Lancair did the mod I think they put an "A" after the seria=
l=20
# on the bottom of the flange. If the centering mod was done, I think the=20
flange was changed. Isn't this noted in the aircraft log? Maybe Lancair=20
would have a record if the prior owner had the strut serviced there.
2) The plans call out bolts holding the nose gear strut to the fork to b=
e=20
AN4-X =E2=80=A6 The nut is a big thick fiber insert nut. The called out bol=
ts on the=20
fork hardly reach the fiber. Are thinner nuts appropriate here? Are castle=20
nuts applicable/acceptable here?
No. Finally a bolt used in both shear and tension. Get a longer bolt and=20
use a std sized lock nut. (bolt inserted from the bottom,nut up top).
3) Does the main gear hydraulic cylinder rebuild kit only provide O-ring=
s=20
and gaskets and the like? Or is there a way to replace or refinish the =E2=
=80=9Crod=E2=80=9D
=E2=80=A6 as this one is rusted. Can I buy just the rod or do I need to pu=
rchase a=20
new cylinder?
Buy a new cyl.
4) I would like to replace the outboard half of GM3 =E2=80=A6 the over c=
enter=20
linkage with the updated longer version. Don=E2=80=99t see it on the Lancai=
r =E2=80=9Cparts=E2=80=9D=20
website. If the newer longer GM3 is not available, and I have to use the=20
original part, is it suitable for use with the =E2=80=9Cnew=E2=80=9D over-c=
enter torsion spring?
Call Lancair. The problem with the old style was poor drilling of the link=
=20
by the builder followed by failure of the rod end/link. =20
5) Can sequence valves be reworked? Is there an overhaul kit?
Yes. Yes. I would but a new one if there was a possibility of the=20
installed one having been abused.
On another subject =E2=80=A6 I am going to begin baffling work on my new La=
ncair=20
(360) in the not too distant future and see in the plans they call out to=20=
=E2=80=9Cuse=20
the blueprints for cutting and folding the aluminum=E2=80=9D =E2=80=A6 page=
21-33 of the fast=20
build kit plans manual. I have no such blueprints and the list of blueprint=
s=20
supplied with the kit has no mention of such plans. Am I missing something=20=
I=20
should have gotten from Lancair originally or do I need to purchase bafflin=
g=20
plans separately? Or what?
Check with Lancair as they might have copies available.
