What I do wonder about, however, Does anyone ever wash out in the training phase. Or possibly more important, does anyone ever just admit that it is just too much airplane for his native abilities?" I have followed the discussion of the Lancair flying characteristics with interest. If I didn't know better, I would think that Lancairs are nothing but killers. When I was investigating the Lancair offerings, I flew the IVPT, the Sentry and the Legacy. I didn't think that any of them were "twitchy". However, I liked the Legacy best. My comment, at the completion of the flight was, "that is the best flying airplane I've ever flown". My flight experience includes the following: J-3 Cub, C-140, T-6, DC-3, F-100, F-4, F-105, B-757, DC-9, B-717 (plus others). There are certain portions of the flight envelope where, if something goes wrong, bad things happen. This is true of all airplanes. It doesn't require a "Superman" to safely fly a Lancair, but perhaps those who won't, or can't, respect it's flight characteristics should look elsewhere.
