Robert,
Be cautious of Light Speed Engineering's (LSE) display data. In
my Plasma III system, the LSE MAP does not agree with the VM EPI 800
display although one is tapped off cyl #1 and the other off cyl #4
respectively.
The LSE MAP display is lower by up to .7" at some power settings. The
LSE RPM indication is low from 40-70 RPM. This result was tested
against both the VM system and the tach used in a dynamic prop balancer.
The VM and balancer tach difference was never more than 10 RPM (VM display
accuracy). Note that the VM RPM data is provided by the LSE Plasma
controller and is picked up by crankshaft sensor mentioned below.
The timing is assumed to be accurate since the two LSE boxes agree within
.5 - .7 degree while using the dual crankshaft sensor system.
LSE converts perfectly good digital data into analog voltage then displayed
on a Simpson LCD voltage meter.
I was told by a former LASAR engineer that their timing was
proprietary so no one else could copy the curve. Remember that Electroair
published its algorithm in the CAFE electronic ignition series. Also note
that LSE does not publish the timing curves but one could develop such
information by utilizing the LSE display and different flight conditions.
