Dear All,
I have just completed the work to comply with SB05-0999 (a number which is
inconsistent with the previous SB for the LNC2 and does not help other LNC
builders to identify if it applies to their aircraft - but I have already
gone on long enough about SB number ing on previous occasions!!!).
My aircraft (G-FOPP) as many of you know did not make its first flight
because of a glitch in the Service Bulletin system used by Lancair.
However, because it has never be subjected to any side-loads or landings I
found no evidence of a de-lamination of the phenolic block or cracks in the
GM bracket. I read the SB to instruct us to look for these deficiencies and
ONLY if we find them do we have to lay the Hysol and 6 BID over the mounting
block. If, as in my case, no delamination or cracks are found the existing
6 BID can be left in place, the phenolic brace inserted between the spar
webs and Hysol/3BID used to fix it in place. This I have done.
The point of this note is that I achieved this without removing anything in
the wheel wells. It was difficult and uncomfortable but all I removed to
carry out the work was the gear retraction drag link where it bolts through
the phenolic block, and the gear micro-switch. All in all the work took
about 16 hours.
Anyone who disagrees with my reading of the SB and its application to
aircraft which do not have the de-lamination or cracks, please let me know.
If you DO have the delamination you most certainly will have to remove the
main gear and this will involve removing the wings.
All the best,
Michael
