That has not been my experience with either my StrikeFinder or WSI. Both work well and consistently. The spherics device for about 1500 hours, the WSI NexRad radar for about 350 hours.

A perspective re the stormscope and WSI effectiveness in a LIVP. My advice based on a lot of frustration of getting these to work in my IVP – don’t waste your money. The stormscope is marginal. Lots of interference from anything electrical in the plane like servos, strobes, etc. it works just well enough to keep you out of trouble. This is after careful skin mapping and placement of the antenna. The wsi is a huge disappointment. Works only as long as no shadow longer than 5 seconds the basically bombs out.  I guess the announced sirrius arrangement is to address the deficiency. I wish lancair avionics had been more helpful when the equipment was speced to avoid these issues. Buyer beware.
