I have an LNC2 so I don't know the geometry of the LNC4 flaps. These
comments might therefore be worthless, but...
If the travel of the hydraulic rod is too great, why not screw the rod end in
so that it isn't as long when extended, and have an external stop to keep it
from retracting quite so far? This has the effect you're looking for, which
is a shorter total travel length.
This is what is done on the LNC2 gear cylinders.
