Bob's method is correct and extremely well explained (better than I could
do), BUT.... (I am sure you knew there was a "but" coming)
... but you should never have to use it. This technique is like the extractor
for stripped screws. You need it in your toolbox because there will be times
when you will need it. But if you ever have to use it, something has already
gone wrong and you are in recovery mode. Similarly, if you find yourself
in a position where you HAVE to terminate a shield this way, you are in a
bad spot -- you have been let down by the product designer. If a cable needs
shielding, it needs proper shielding via a properly designed backshell.
