Bob Nuckolls' Aeroelectric website has an article describing how to terminate shielded cable. Is his method incorrect?

A real quick response, with more to follow in a day or two.......

Bob's method is correct and extremely well explained (better than I could do), BUT.... (I am sure you knew there was a "but" coming)

... but you should never have to use it.  This technique is like the extractor for stripped screws.  You need it in your toolbox because there will be times when you will need it.  But if you ever have to use it, something has already gone wrong and you are in recovery mode.  Similarly, if you find yourself in a position where you HAVE to terminate a shield this way, you are in a bad spot -- you have been let down by the product designer.  If a cable needs shielding, it needs proper shielding via a properly designed backshell.

Hamid
