The Garmin 327's on several (we have 7) aircraft we operate are hooked to
the
squat switch. Leaving the "dang thing on" if you are not sure is over-doing
it, as far and away, most people are not at an ASDE equipped airport. It's
pretty easy to forget to turn it to standby sometimes I know, but its also
irresponsible to be constantly crying wolf for no reason.

Hey, I like that.  I have got to check my transponder wiring diagram to see if it can be activated that way.  Since I fly out of the ORD Mode C veil, I am more concerned about forgetting to turn the dang thing on.  Most departures are VFR with a high climb rate.  I think wee curvy glass Lancairs don't provide much of a primary return.
