I don't know if you can see my altimeter but it reads 2,500 ft on the
crosswind entry to my airfield (Y47). The airport altitude is 920 ft. The
altimeter then climbs a couple of hundred feet as I slow to put the gear down
while turning downwind.
You can also see the VSI and it reads 1,500 fpm for the whole ride down. I
am using about 35° of flap. The final approach sure does look shallow but the
VSI stays at 1,500 fpm until short final.
I have an Aero Composites carbon fiber prop.
