Subject: Legacy brake cylinders?

Ok, so I unpacked my brake cylinders tonight getting the final assembly done
on the rudder pedals.  Even tho the cylinders had plugs in them, they had
leaked a full covering of red oil all over the outside.  This then turned to
goo... So now I have to clean them...... BUT.  Nothing seems to touch or
remove the goo except acetone or the like.  This strong of cleaner also
removes the ink on the manufacture decal on the side.

So, any good ideas for how to clean these up?  Maybe I should just put some
more oil on them and maybe it will soften up the old goo?  Perhaps that will
leave the decal alone as well, and then I can just wipe them off?

Any thoughts?

Alan - headed to try the new oil on old trick... Now if I only had some red
fluid... It's at the hanger :(
