Where have you tried?
Two sources/underwriters that I know of:
EAA/Falcon
AIG Aviation
My recent experience was that neither wanted to offer builders insurance for
the total of what I though my ES project would be worth. In fact, they were
hard pressed to insure it for my estimates of the total hard $ parts costs.
I'll worry more about that when I get closer to the point of cost exceed the
policy limit (engine, avionics, paint, etc) - many months from now.
Both also seemed to have a rule to not offer builders insurance if they
didn't think they would insure the plane/pilot when it was done. I'm a
750+ hour multi commercial instrument, so that wasn't a big issue for me in
an ES. However, it might effect some IV builders.
My builders policy is non-movement, ie. as-is it won't cover taxi tests or
phase one. I understand that comes later.
Interested in others' experiences, insights.
