<<My experience with LyCon has been abysmal>>
Obviously, different people can have different experiences but, where it counts, the Ly-Con folks are a serious class act. No, they don't return phone calls reliably but I never had any problem talking with them if either I really needed to right away or if I was willing to keep calling until I was able to get them. And no, they are not a slick, sales oriented organization that spends time schmoozing customers at the expense of doing a good job on the engines they send out. I have come to know both Kenny and Steve well and neither one has a clue how to b.s. anyone. They may not be the best organized bunch in the world so they sometimes tell you something that turns out to be wrong but they are dead solid honest people. It also does not matter whether you are a Reno racer or show pilot or just a regular guy. I am firmly in the latter category and I get fantastic treatment.
Because Skip never got past the schmooze stage, he never got the opportunity to see just what a class act they are. I, too, got told a few things that turned out not to be completely true and I definitely got to the point where my fingers knew their phone number. On the other hand, my engine was ready when they said it would be and it met or exceeded every expectation I had for it. That in itself should be praise enough but what really has impressed me is their after sale performance. I had a really hard time breaking in my engine and it kept consuming more oil than it should have. On two separate occasions, one after about a year and the other after more than three years and more than 400 hours, Kenny did a top-end rebuild. The second time, he pulled the engine off the airplane, took it back to his shop, hand honed the cylinders, put it on the test stand, ran it for ten hours and put it back on the airplane. I didn't ask him to do it, he just did it. And I was never charged a cent -- not even for the gas! Name me one other vendor of ANYTHING that would stand behind a product like that.
Ly-con is, quite simply, as high class an act as I have ever seen. They could use a marketing director (as well as several more phone people) but in every way that is important, they are as good as it gets.
