Greetings,
I am in the process of mounting the nose gear door on my 360 fast
build. The directions call for structural pop rivets to hold the
hinge to the fuselage. I don't particularly care for pop rivets
and I also don't like to have hinges that I cannot remove (hassle
for painting around and later maintenance).
All along I thought, "no problem, I will just use screws and put
nut plates on the back side." Well, no luck. I drilled the first
hole and looked in the foot well to see where it came out -- there
was no hole! The skin on the fuselage is thick enough (approx. 1/2"),
that the drill bit ends up inside the core. Now I see why the pop
rivets :)
I am not ready to give up yet. I know some of you have used screws
for this hinge. I have a picture of Duane Hitchcock's 320 and he
used screws. The big mystery for me is what do I do about nuts on
the back side?
Any help out there?
Thanks!
Dan
