Daniel, I was introducing an ATPL instructor to the Lnacair 320 with the
parralelogram tyrp canop which has four locking points. To cut a ling story
short, it was his tuirn to fly with me in the right hand seat and we took off
with the canopy unlatched ( a case of two many pilots +/- unfamiliarity with
aircraft type). We noticed increase cabin noise on climb out and very quickly
realised the cause. We latched the canopy in flight and continued on, however
perhaps the Gods were with us that day. I have flown many times with this
instructor since and he has never failed to lock the canopy. In retrospect, I
think it was complacency and a failure to read the checklist as he had
approximately 3,000 hours on bog standard singles and twins but no Lancair
time.
