This is one thing I suspect the Advanced Pilot Seminar guys might say. They are big fans of run lean partly because this leads to lower CHTs. They might also say that if you run rich of peak, run well rich of peak, at least a high power settings. The ideas behind this are discussed at some length in articles they have on their webset.
