If you buy a approved 51% rule kit, and do all the work yourself, you don't need to document anything special. But, it you stay at Lancair for two weeks, for example, you will need to document the nature of your commercial assistance. My interpretation is, since you are standing there, watching, participating, you can say that you closed your wings (for example) with the assistance of Lancair. That documentation should give the DAR enough evidence that you were actively involved with 51% of the construction. I don't think paid help is the issue, it's paid builders doing work without the builder being there involved with the work.
