Perchance an automatic systems that fine-tunes each injection for each cylinder. 

A novel concept - is anyone working on such?    ;-)

I happen to fly one of the worst engines (TSIO-520R) from an efficiency standpoint and could only remember the data points for my peers flying some of the marginally more efficient Cessnas. Of course, even my engine LOP is more efficient than the best engine running ROP. Now, if we only had a fuel injection system that would allow us to set a particular fuel flow or lambda value…
