We're in the process of designing a paint scheme for our plane.  I know there were discussions about the very bad effects of paint stripe/steps on the leading edge of the wings -- the upshot being don't do it!  But then this brought to mind the question, "What effect do stripes have on the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer?"  More induced drag, or ...?
